Tourist Visa

Documents Required

Mandatory/Common Documents

These documents are required for all Tourist/Visitor Visa applicants, regardless of the purpose of the visit:

Visa Application Form

• Must be completed in English and signed by the applicant.
• For minors, the form must be signed by parents or legal guardians.

Passport Photos

• Two recent passport-sized colour photos (35 mm wide x 45 mm high).
• Taken within the last six months.
• Clear, full-face image with no head covering (unless for religious or ethnic reasons).
• Printed on standard photographic paper.

Valid Passport

• Must be original and have at least two blank visa pages.
• Should be valid for at least 90 days after the intended departure from Hungary.

UK Residency

• Provide a UK eVisa printout from UKVI with a valid share code.
• If holding a UK Residence Permit, submit the original and a copy of both sides, valid for at least one month beyond departure from the Schengen Area.

Proof of Travel

• A confirmed round-trip ticket or proof of onward travel.
• If travelling by car, provide driving licence, car registration, and car insurance, along with return ferry tickets.

Proof of Finance (Must be dated within 30 days)

• Bank statements for the last three months, showing sufficient funds for the stay and event participation.
• If financially supported by a sponsor, provide their bank statements and a sponsorship declaration.

Proof of Occupation (Required for all applicants, must be dated within 30 days)

• For employed applicants:
  • Recent employment letter from the UK employer, stating job title, start date, salary, and approved leave
• For self-employed applicants:
  • Letter from a chartered accountant or business registration certificate confirming self-employment status
  • Most recent tax return or proof of ongoing business activity
• For student applicants:

• Recent letter from the UK educational institution confirming enrolment, course details, and authorised leave of absence

Medical Insurance

• Provide Schengen-valid travel insurance covering medical expenses up to EUR 30,000.
• The insurance must include repatriation, emergency treatment, and hospitalisation.

Accommodation

• Submit hotel bookings for the entire stay.
• If visiting family/friends, provide an invitation letter from the host in Hungary confirming accommodation.

Visa-Specific Unique Documents

For Tourist Visa

• Proof of tourism intent, such as a confirmed hotel booking covering the full stay or tour package confirmation from a travel agency.
• If staying with family or friends, an invitation letter from the host is required.

For Visitor Family/Friends Visa

Invitation Letter

• A signed invitation letter from the family member or friend in Hungary.
• Must state the purpose of the visit, length of stay, and accommodation details.

Proof of Relationship

• Official documentation proving the relationship, such as a birth certificate, marriage certificate, or family register.

Accommodation Proof (if not staying in a hotel)

• If hosted by family or friends, provide proof of the host’s residence in Hungary, such as a rental agreement or property ownership document.

For Visitor Family/Friends (Family Member of Hungarian Nationals) Visa

Proof of Family Relationship

• Official documentation verifying the relationship with the Hungarian national (e.g., birth certificate, marriage certificate, or adoption documents).

Hungarian National’s Documents

• A copy of the Hungarian national’s passport or Hungarian ID card.

Invitation Letter from Hungarian National

• A signed invitation letter from the Hungarian national family member, confirming the purpose of the visit and accommodation details.

Proof of Finance (if dependent on the Hungarian national)

• If the Hungarian national is financially supporting the applicant, submit their bank statements for the last three months.

Additional Documents for Minors (Under 18)

Birth Certificate

• A copy of the minor’s birth certificate for identification purposes.

Parental Consent

• •If a minor is traveling alone or with only one parent, provide a notarised consent letter from the non-traveling parent along with a certified copy of the parent’s passport page.
• If the child has sole custody with one parent, submit court ruling documents or a death certificate of the other parent.

Important Notes

• Incomplete Applications
  • Missing documents or incorrect submissions can lead to delays or rejection. Ensure all required documents are included before your appointment.
• Translation of Documents
  • Any document that is not in English must be officially translated before submission.
• Additional Requirements
  • The Hungarian Consulate reserves the right to request additional documents or conduct an interview, which may extend processing times.
• Visa Validity
  • The visa cannot be issued for a period longer than the validity of the passport.

Photo Specifications

Please provide one recent colour photograph (not more than six months old) that meets the following requirements:

• Background: Taken against a light (white or off-white) background to ensure clear visibility and contrast.
• Quality & Clarity: The image must be sharp, in focus, and of high quality, with no ink marks, creases, or damage.
• Facial Features:
  • The applicant must have a neutral expression (non-smiling).
  • Eyes must be fully open and clearly visible (no reflections from glasses).
  • No sunglasses, hats, caps, or head coverings, except for religious or ethnic reasons.
• Size & Composition:
  • The photo must be 35–40mm in width.
  • The head and top of the shoulders must be visible, with the face occupying 70–80% of the photograph.
• Printing Requirements:
  • The photograph must be printed on standard photographic paper (camera print).
  • Must be attached to the Visa Application Form using glue or a paperclip (staples are not allowed).

If the photograph does not meet these requirements, the visa application will be considered incomplete, and the applicant may be required to take new photographs at the visa application centre.
