Official Residence Visa– Hungary

 Hassle-free visa processing for your travel needs.

Overview

Foreign nationals intending to stay in Hungary for more than three months for official duties must apply for a Residence Permit. Applications must be submitted at the designated visa application centre.

Important Notes

  • Third-country family members of Hungarian citizens must apply for a residence permit on the grounds of family reunification if staying beyond three months.
  • Applicants must provide proof of official status or diplomatic assignment to be eligible for this permit.

Documents Required

Mandatory Requirements for All Applicants

  • Visa Application Form – Duly completed and signed (Appendix 9.17 for Official Visa).
  • Passport Photos – One recent colour passport-sized photo (35mm x 45mm), well-contrasted, head straight, mouth closed.
  • Valid Passport – At least two blank pages, issued within the last 10 years, valid for at least three months beyond the intended stay in Hungary.
  • UK Residency Proof – Original and copy of a valid UK Residence Permit or UK eVisa printout with share code.
  • Proof of Funds – Recent bank statements (last 3 months), tax or income verification from employer or tax authority, or notarised declaration from a family member assuming financial responsibility.
  • Proof of Accommodation in Hungary –
    • Residential lease contract
    • Property ownership document
    • Proof of paid accommodation reservation
    • Statement from host providing accommodation
  • Health Insurance – Proof of comprehensive health insurance coverage in Hungary.
  • Proof of Exit from Hungary – Return flight ticket or proof of sufficient funds to purchase a ticket.

Official Status (Government or Diplomatic Personnel)

  • Official Status Document – Proof of diplomatic privileges and immunities under international law.
  • Certificate of Assignment – Issued by a foreign state, public body, international organisation, or an accredited institution (scientific, academic, educational, or cultural).
  • Family Member Proof – Official document verifying family relationship (for dependents accompanying the applicant).

Important Notes

  • Incomplete Applications
    • Any missing documents may result in processing delays or application rejection.
  • Translation of Documents
    • Documents not in English must be officially translated before submission.
  • Additional Requirements
    • The consulate reserves the right to request further documents or conduct an interview, which may impact processing time.
  • Visa Validity
    • The visa cannot be issued for a period longer than the validity of the passport.

Photo Specifications

Please provide one recent colour photograph (not more than six months old) that meets the following requirements:

  • Background: Taken against a light (white or off-white) background to ensure clear visibility and contrast.
  • Quality & Clarity: The image must be sharp, in focus, and of high quality, with no ink marks, creases, or damage.
  • Facial Features:
    • The applicant must have a neutral expression (non-smiling).
    • Eyes must be fully open and clearly visible (no reflections from glasses).
    • No sunglasses, hats, caps, or head coverings, except for religious or ethnic reasons.
  • Size & Composition:
    • The photo must be 35–40mm in width.
    • The head and top of the shoulders must be visible, with the face occupying 70–80% of the photograph.
  • Printing Requirements:
    • The photograph must be printed on standard photographic paper (camera print).
    • Must be attached to the Visa Application Form using glue or a paperclip (staples are not allowed).

If the photograph does not meet these requirements, the visa application will be considered incomplete, and the applicant may be required to take new photographs at the visa application centre.
